Paestum was an important Greek colony dating back to the 6th century B.C.. During roman times a large forum was added, with shops and a new theater. This site is famous for its magnificent Doric temples, the Basilica, the Temple of Neptune, and the Temple of Ceres. The museum houses precious artifacts from the surrounding area, most notably the frescoed funeral stones including the very famous Diver’s Tomb.
