Ercolano

In 1709 Prince of Elboeuf came across the remains of a roman theater while digging a well. Since then, the excavations on this site have continued, bringing to light a cultural patrimony of uncountable value. On the 24th of August 79 aA.D, a terrifying eruption of Vesuvius buried everything, preserving in that moment for posterity. At first in excavations were clandestine, but in 1738, under the patronage of the King of Naples, Charles III of the Bourbon Dynasty work began in an official way. Work has stopped and started various times, but work resumed in 1927. The excavations contain the fascinating beauty of private, wealthy villas, even the wooden furniture .Among the best Villas are The Sannite Villa, the villa of the wooden partition, the House of the Deer and the House of the Mosaic Atrium. The city was constructed directly by the sea, and walking through the ruins it feels as if you are in another dimension, the state of preservation is such that it feels as if you have stepped back in time, to the days when all the houses and shops were full of life.
